Understanding Bar Type Current Transformers
A current transformer is a type of instrument transformer used to step down high current levels to lower, manageable values for metering and protection devices. The bar type CT, specifically, is designed with a straight-through bar conductor that serves as the primary winding. Unlike wound CTs that wrap a conductor around a core, bar type CTs use the actual conductor (or a copper/aluminum bar) as the primary, which passes centrally through a toroidal core.
